They say that people who live next to waterfalls don’t hear the water.
I’m watching That Thing You Do. Oh, memories of 6th grade. I remember that when I went to see this with my friends, I was worried that they’d ask for my id and that they wouldn’t let me in since I was only 11 and it was PG-13.
Anyway. I read Everything is Illuminated in two days. I loved it. It’s actually quite different from the movie, but it would have been next to impossible to make a movie that was a lot like the book. When I really get into books, I have a hard time remembering that it’s just fiction. So the entire time I kept thinking that Jonathan Safran Foer really went to (the) Ukraine. And Alex really was his translator and wrote him letters. And Brod existed. I loved how it was three different stories in one-Alex’s letters to Jonathan, Alex’s descriptions of the very rigid search, and Jonathan’s stories about Trachimbrod. But, I must admit, that the end of the book left me incredibly confused. Whenever I really like a book, I start reading faster than usual, which also means I miss things. But I just don’t know what the relationship between Augustine and Grandfather was. And did Alex tell his father to leave just because he was an alcoholic or was there more to it? I’ve got more questions. Before this book, most of the ones I had been reading hadn’t made me think. I’d read it and I’d like it. But that’d be it. I actually couldn’t stop thinking about this one. It also made me cry. Anyway. It’s an excellent book and you should read it. I own a copy now, so just ask and you can borrow mine.
Last night I realized that I hadn’t watched any new old movies in a while. By new old movies I mean old movies that I haven’t watched yet. So I turned on TCM and watched a movie called Bunny Lake is Missing. It was incredible. Well, there were a few plot holes. But other than that I loved it. It’s a mystery. Um. Laurence Olivier was in it. Oh and I just found out that it’s based on a book. Hm. Today I started reading Rebecca. And since I watched that movie first, the characters in my head are the actors that were in the movie. SO Laurence Olivier is Maxim de Winter. Which actually isn’t bad at all because I love him.
I’ll be back in CH tonight. Tomorrow I’m going to Caribou for a long long time.
Love,
Me
P.S. The Carolina House of Cary is the nicest nursing home I have ever seen in my entire life.
